Cumulopuntia es un género de cactus perteneciente a la familia Cactaceae). Es un género muy controvertido. Son nativas de Suramérica. Comprende 33 especies descritas y de estas, sólo 18 aceptadas.[1]
Taxonomía
El género fue descrito por Friedrich Ritter y publicado en Kakteen in Südamerika 2: 399. 1980.[2] La especie tipo es: Cumulopuntia ignescens
- Etimología
Cumulopuntia: nombre genérico que deriva de cumulus = "cúmulo" y Opuntia, que es el género. El término "cumulus" hace referencia a la manera en la que se desarrolla la planta, formando apilamientos.
